Children First Act, 2015

The LSSC acknowledges that it is everyone’s responsibility to protect children and young people. The Children First Act, 2015 which is due to commence in December 2017, strengthens arrangements between statutory and voluntary agencies in the recognising and responding to suspected child abuse. 

From that time, key personnel in agencies like the LSSC will be known as Mandated Persons and will be legally required to report and assist in matters relating to child protection.  In addition, agencies will be required to draw up Child Safeguarding Statements to ensure that children using their services are kept safe.  The LSSC welcomes such new developments and will work closely with TUSLA and other agencies for the best outcomes for children.
