Vacancy - Community Social Worker (Full Time 37.5 hours per week, Fixed Term 52 week contract)

The Community Social Worker will work as part of the Community Social Work and Family Support Service within LSSC’s Child and Family Service to support families to build stronger relationships, develop their parenting and communication skills and address a range of challenges that they may be facing. This work will be done through one to one home visits, centre-based work and targeted group work interventions, where needed.

The role will entail the following (please see the job description for a full description of the roles and responsibilities.):

  • To assess the needs of children and families engaging with the service
  • To plan, implement and review programmes of support for children, young people and families based on their identified strengths and needs
  • To provide a range of practical services including direct work with families, advice, guidance and assistance in respect of the physical, social and emotional development of children and young people
  • To support service users  in their parenting role and support positive parent/child relationships through one to one work (home visits and centre-based work)
  • To act as the Deputy Designated  Liaison Person for the organisation and to support the work of the Designated Liaison Person

Applicants for this post must have:

  • Recognised third level qualification in Social Work and registered with Social Workers Registration Board at CORU.
  • Commitment to the incorporation of Social Work values and ethical principles in planning, developing, implementing and reviewing interventions, which values both individual relationship-based practice and collective approaches
  • Experience of working with vulnerable children and families.
  • Experience of working in partnership with families and carers
  • Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of clinical, professional and social work interventions with children and families, as well as relevant legislation, needs assessment tools and practice guidelines
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of Child Protection and Welfare issues, and knowledge of National Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults Policy
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and in partnership with service users and other professionals.
  • Commitment to Continuous Professional Development
  • Full clean Driving Licence and use of a car.

  • The Post is subject to 6 months’ probation, Garda Vetting, two written references and continued funding.
